UPDF recruitment: Over 90 disqualified over health issues in west Acholi districts

At least 93 candidates have missed joining the army during the recruitment exercise for the West Acholi districts, which took place between Tuesday and Wednesday at Pece Stadium in Gulu city.

Records from the recruitment officials indicate that 195 candidates were shortlisted after applying online, but only 102 were recruited.

The 93 individuals were disqualified on health grounds after some of them were found to have Hepatitis B, skin diseases, hernia, and eye defects, while others failed physical fitness tests.

Some candidates were also disqualified after being found with forged academic documents and missing national IDs.

Army Fourth Division spokesperson Capt. David Kamya Kiwanuka revealed that during the two-day exercise, they recruited 23 candidates (22 regular and one professional) from Omoro district out of 39 individuals who were shortlisted, 36 (31 regular and five professionals) from Gulu district out of 62 shortlisted, and 15 (14 regular and one professional) from Gulu city out of 26 shortlisted.

Others, including 12 (all regular) from Nwoya district out of 28 who were shortlisted, and 16 (all regular) from Amuru district out of 40 who were shortlisted, according to him.

Kamya added that they also arrested five candidates (two from Nwoya and three from Amuru) over alleged forgery of academic documents.

A similar exercise by Team Six Northern Region will continue on Friday, 8, 2025, in Kitgum district before the team shifts to Lango sub-region, according to him.
