A total of thirty Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Marine soldiers have completed a three months coxswain Marine course on Lake Victoria at Ntokoro marine base in Magamaga town council in Mayuge district.
Brig Gen Alex Olupot, UPDF Joint Staff Training and Doctrine (JS-TRADOC) on Monday while officiating at the graduation ceremony said, by empowering troops with skills through training is a continuous process towards professionalization of UPDF as pledged by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni the Commander in Chief (CIC).
“The CIC promised a professional force that is capable to operate in all aspects like on land, in air and on water to guarantee Uganda’s security, what you are witnessing today is a manifestation of his pledge,” said Brig Gen Olupot.

He informed the graduands that they should expect to undergo more professional courses to acquire skills and abilities to be utilized in UPDF.
Brig Gen Olupot, hailed the good feedback from the local population which he said is an indication that UPDF has maintained its core values and this is crucial because it’s well relayed in the UPDF doctrine, its therefore not taken for granted.
He appreciated efforts by the UPDF and marine leadership for working together and ensuring that the objectives of the training have been achieved.

Brig Gen Micheal Nyarwa the Commander marine Brigade Brig Gen said, “We are here to celebrate skills acquired through training which serves as a conductor that realigns with the strategic obligations of form skilled and capable coxswains to navigate through the waters and ensure safety of passengers with their cargo on water”. Said Brig Gen Nyarwa.
Brig Gen Nyarwa said, the training was a basic marine sustainment course which is a stepping stone for other courses meant to build capacity and skills in marine for the good of UPDF and Uganda at large.

He expressed gratitude to the CIC for creating a professional army and his continued strategic guidance that has seen UPDF grow.
Thomas Matembe, Mayuge Resident District Commissioner (RDC) commended UPDF marine soldiers at Ntokoro base for the good relationship with the population, adding that skills you have displayed are an indication that UPDF is capable of safeguarding Uganda.

Pte Micheal Ogoi, emerged as the best Coxswain, Pte Martine Abuzireki was the best in academics while Pte Stephen Waligo displayed the best leadership skills during the course.
Present at the function was Col Erisa Ssejabi from Defence General Depot, Col. George Twekwase from MIO, the area MP Hon Henry Aggrey Bagire, Peter Nkwanga Tusubirwa, vice chairperson LC5 Mayuge district and Annet Lokua, District Internal Security Officer.
