Sections of Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) leaders have urged the government under the leadership of National Resistance Movement (NRM) to prioritize infrastructure development in the West Nile region.

The UPC leaders during the burial of their former party vice president Caleb Titia Kamure last week in Terego district blamed the government for not upgrading roads in West Nile.

They cited the Karuma-Arua road, which they said, was in a bad state and lacked a modern mortuary at Arua Regional Referral Hospital.

Issa Otto, the former Member of Parliament for Oyam South County and a staunch UPC member called upon the people of West Nile to join hands and demand better services including tarmacking of the road from Lira to Kamdini.

Joseph Pinytek Ochieno, a renowned political analyst and UPC stalwart described poor road networks and absence of a descent a mortuary in a regional hospital as criminal .

“The Arua hospital we are talking about was built by UPC government and I am surprised that, up to now the hospital cannot have a decent mortuary and tell me this is not criminal. Additionally, West Nile has not been connected to the national grid, what has West Nile done to deserve all this underdevelopment,” Said Ochieno.

However, the minister of state for land in charge of urban development, Obiga Kania said the road from Karuma is being repaired and that construction of a storied mortuary is underway at Arua Regional Referral Hospital.

“This time, when you drove from Pakwach to Nebbi, I am sure, you must have seen a smooth road, and the road from Karuma is being repaired. Government priorities have been different. Soon, we shall have a mortuary operating. New equipment include six fridges with a capacity of two bodies, each,” said Kania.
