The   Executive Vice president Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Junichi Yamada together with Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) Executive director, Allen Kagina on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, inspected the Kampala flyover and road upgrading works to ascertain the progress of the project funded by JICA and the Government of Uganda.

The project was started as a result of the rapidly increasing traffic demand within Kampala City with an overall objective of improving traffic flow within the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area (GKMA) by decongesting the Central Business District (CBD) of Kampala through the construction of flyovers, underpass, pedestrian bridges, road upgrading and improvement of junctions.

The project has also undertaken major drainage improvements to mitigate flooding around Clock Tower, Shoprite and Nsambya-Mukwano road including Kibuli junction.

At the end of the tour, Junichi Yamada accompanied by UNRA ED, Allen Kagina, the director of Roads & bridges Eng. Sam Muhoozi and the head of bridges & structures Eng. Lawrence Pario expressed satisfaction with lot 1 of the project which is about 80% complete.
