Uganda’s annual inflation rate for the 12 months to April 2024 slowed to 3.2%, down from 3.3% in March 2024. The annual core inflation rate remained at 3.5%.

Aliziki Lubega, the director of Economic Statistics at Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), said during the review period, prices for cooking bananas, sweet potatoes, beans, and yellow bananas (bogoya) decreased compared to the same time last year.

However, she noted that price increases were seen in domestic flight charges, hotel and accommodation, local brew (Malwa), dry mukene, Tilapia fish, refined oil, and cement.

Lubega said that prices of goods and services are still rising but at a slower pace compared to previous years.

“We specifically note that prices of dry mukene has gone up. But when you look at the 12 months’ period, prices have come down from where we have been. In March 2023 annual inflation was at 9% compared to 3.2% in April,” she said.
