The Uganda Tristate Community Association (UTCA) has officially been launched to unite Ugandans living in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, a region known for its large population of Ugandan professionals.

Formed in 2024 after years of informal gatherings, UTCA's launch was held on July 26, 2025, in Paramus, New Jersey, under the theme Resilience and Adaptability in the Diaspora.

The Uganda Mission in New York was present at the launch, with Ambassador Duncan Muhumuza representing the Mission. He commended the initiative and called on Ugandans in the region to support each other and seek business opportunities that benefit both the diaspora and Uganda.

He appreciated the unity and togetherness of the Ugandans in the Tri-State area, encouraged them to look out for each other and identify and be the focal point for business opportunities for Ugandan products and for Ugandans.

The Mission also shared information about the consular services it offers, including registration, National ID processing, repatriation assistance, document authentication and emergency travel documentation.

UTCA president Mildred Ssennyondo summed up the spirit of the event, saying, “We’ve always gathered. Now, we’re organising – with purpose.”

The Tri-State area hosts the largest number of Ugandan professionals in the US, many of whom are employed by the United Nations and other international organisations.

The association also plans to hold rotational events across New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut to deepen engagement.

In a separate engagement, the Mission held discussions with the New York Africa Chamber of Commerce and the US Africa Trade and Business Network. The talks focused on enhancing trade ties and boosting Uganda’s visibility in economic and commercial diplomacy.

Organisers of the launch expressed gratitude for the Mission’s involvement and affirmed their commitment to working closely with it going forward.
