KAMPALA - The Inspectorate of Government (IG) is set to launch the declaration of assets and income by Ugandan leaders.
Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo will be the chief guest at the event.
According to the Leadership Code Act, leaders are required to declare their assets, income and liabilities every two years, and the last declaration was in March 2023.
A declaration of income, assets and liabilities is a mechanism for accountability of leaders to the citizens. The declarations are verified by IG to ascertain whether the leaders' assets are commensurate with their known income.
The leaders expected to declare their assets, include the President, Vice-President, Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Parliament, District chairpersons, vice-chairperson and secretary generals of political parties, Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister and MPs.
All leaders are required to declare their income, assets and liabilities to the Inspectorate of Government within three months after becoming a leader; and thereafter every two years in March.
IG shall receive declarations from leaders between March 1, 2025 and March 31, 2025 at midnight.
How to file
All declarations are filled and submitted electronically using the Inspectorate of Government’s Online Declaration System (IG-ODS). All Leaders are given a unique number which identifies them to access and use the system.
The leader generates a self-invitation using the ODS except upon making a formal request.
Declarants are also advised to send an email to declarations@igg.go.ug or write a letter to the IGG to request to get copies of their declaration forms.
