A Ugandan delegation has visited and sought partnership with NTH Agro, a leading Algerian agro-industrial group operating in coffee roasting, tomato canning, margarine and powdered milk production.

Uganda and Algeria already have several memoranda of understanding (MOUs) in the area of promoting bilateral co-operation and trade between the two countries.

The November 20, 2025, visit by Uganda's deputy head of mission to Algeria, ambassador Dr Julius Joshua Kivuna and counsellor Twaha Bugason Candiga, saw the duo hold productive discussions with the group's top management on expanding bilateral trade, including the company’s interest in sourcing high-quality Ugandan green coffee and exploring market opportunities in East Africa.

When Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni visited Algeria, he discussed with his counterpart a host of issues, and they agreed to work together in the areas of trade, energy, education, agriculture and counter-terrorism.

"In Algeria, we have reliable partners: we are looking at powdered milk, which is already coming here, coffee, tea, and then products from Algeria of petroleum and petrochemicals," Museveni posted on his social media handle then.

The Ugandan delegation also toured NTH Agro's four factories and discussed future co-operation under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework, which is one of the Flagship Projects of Agenda 2063, Africa’s development framework.

The AfCFTA was approved by the 18th ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in January 2012, which adopted the decision to establish an African Continental Free Trade Area and the Action Plan for Boosting intra-African trade as a key initiative whose implementation would promote socio-economic growth and development.

The Ugandan embassy promised to connect the company with reputable Ugandan exporters to advance this promising partnership.
