Uganda's Amb. Farid M. Kaliisa has presented copies of his letters of credence to Gabon's foreign affairs minister, Régis Onanga Ndiaye.
The documents accredit him as Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary to Gabon.
In the discussions that ensued at the foreign ministry offices in Gabon's capital, Libreville, Kaliisa and Ndiaye lauded the warm fraternal bilateral relations between Uganda and Gabon.
In 2024, President Brice Oligui Nguema visited Uganda, during which he and President Yoweri Museveni agreed on promoting co-operation in the key areas of agriculture, defence co-operation, industrial partnerships, trade/tourism, and health.
In Libreville on Friday, the Gabonese foreign minister welcomed Uganda’s readiness to build capacity in the agricultural sector through assistance to subsistence farming.
On his part, Kaliisa informed his host also of the training opportunities extended in the defence sectors, as well as scholarships, which were much appreciated by Gabon.
According to a statement, the meeting agreed to the holding of future bilateral engagements.
The technical team was tasked with finalising the harmonisation of the requisite documentation and framework co-operation agreements, and agreeing on dates for convening of a bilateral meeting and forum, preferably after the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, in New York.
The Ugandan ambassador committed to fast-tracking the process of follow-up and sharing of key memoranda of understanding for the smooth holding of a bilateral meeting and business forum to further consolidate bilateral co-operation engagements.
