Uganda is to host the East African Revival Kabale Convention scheduled on August 20-24, 2025 in Kabale town in southern Uganda.
The revival convention is expected to attract 15,000 delegates from the United States, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, among others.
The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Dr Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, says that the revival movement is key for the delegates to renew their relationship with God, with emphasis on forgiving one another and loving one another.
“The revival is about to break the barriers we are entangled in, and it goes beyond boundaries and tribes. The issue of forgiveness comes from revival, reconciliation, and loving one another. Revival brings sisterhood and brotherhood,” Dr Kaziimba stated during a press conference at Namirembe Cathedral in Kampala on Thursday, July 24.
Dr Kazimba, who was flanked by the former Prime Ministers Amama Mbabazi and Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, said the convention reminds Christians of all walks of life about the Kutendereza Yesu song, saying let’s go back to our roots.

He pointed out that there are people who are in total darkness, hence the need for redemption.
“It is a call to rekindle, reactivate, renew, recommitment, resuscitate and resurrect our faith in God,” Dr Kazimba said.
In a brief profile, the Bishop of Kigezi Diocese, Gad Akanjune said the revival which started in 1935 will be 100 years old by 2035.
Bishop Akanjune pointed out that a revival convention is crucial in that the delegates are expected to be rejuvenated and re-energised in their walk with Jesus Christ.
Dr Rugunda, who is the chair of the organising committee, deputised by his former counterpart Mbabazi, noted that the East African revival convention will cause spiritual and social transformation of the people.
“Our duty is to ensure that the philosophy of spiritual revival/movement is re-energised so that the new generation benefits from it, and President Yoweri Museveni is a product of the revival movement,” Dr Rugunda said.
He observed that before the early revival came in, many people died due to poor hygiene, and, therefore, the convention will ensure that cleanness is a priority to prevent people from dying from different diseases.
He said issues of health shall be addressed.
To Mbabazi, this revival is one of the most significant movements in African modern times.
He added that the revival is not another event on the Church calendar but a call for spiritual transformation.
“It is a call to rekindle life and become born again,” he added.
