As Uganda was celebrating its 63rd Independence Day at the Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala on October 9, 2025, another gift was on the way.
While attending the Digital Government Africa Summit (DGA) in Zambia, the Ugandan delegation, led by information minister Dr Chris Baryomunsi, came out brimming after Uganda was elected to host the Government Africa Summit 2026.
The Digital Government Africa Summit (DGA) is the continent’s premier ministerial platform dedicated to advancing public-sector digital transformation. It provides a space for policymakers, innovators, and private-sector leaders to exchange knowledge, forge partnerships, and align national initiatives with the African Union Digital Transformation Strategy (2020–2030).
“I was privileged to participate in the digital Government summit 2025 that was officially opened by His Excellency Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia,” Baryomunsi said.
The summit brought together over 56 African governments and several industry players to forge a way for digitally integrated Africa.
The National Information Technology Authority-Uganda (NITA-U) has been instrumental in presenting the case for the summit to be hosted in Uganda. This has been through its close collaboration and participation with African brains behind this initiative.
