The teams that will represent Uganda at this year’s edition of the International Schools Sports Federation (ISF) Football World Cup from May 17 to 27, departed today for Dalian, China, aboard Qatar Airways.
The teams include Bukedea Comprehensive School, St Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK), and Amus College School boys and girls teams. St. Noa Girls opted out.
The teams qualified after great performances at the 2023 FEASSA Games in Huye, Rwanda.
Bukedea Comprehensive is in Group F alongside teams from world football giants Brazil and Germany, with Mexico and Turkmenistan completing the set.
“We are ready for the competition and our team is well prepared. We know that the school teams from countries we are going to meet are very strong because of the history of their senior teams on the world stage, but were are going to compete and also learn since this is our first time,” said Jonathan Gumisiriza, the Bukedea team manager.
Uganda’s other representative Amus College School is in Group G alongside Kenya, Benin, and Chinese Taipei, while St. Mary’s College Kisubi is in Group E alongside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, England, Hungary, and New Zealand.
The girls' category has Amus College School in pool C alongside Brazil, the Czech Republic, Canada, and Nigeria.
