The Uganda Police say they have arrested 12 suspects over allegedly selling fake match tickets for the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) football tournament.

Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma on Monday, August 18, 2025, told journalists at Police Headquarters in Naguru that investigations revealed attempts by individuals to duplicate and sell tickets to unsuspecting fans, despite official confirmation that all tickets had sold out.

“The Local Organising Committee communicated clearly that tickets were sold out. However, some people tried to sell fake or duplicate tickets. We have arrested twelve suspects, and they are now facing the music with us,” Kituuma said during the joint weekly security briefing.

He praised fans for largely co-operating with security protocols throughout the tournament but urged continued vigilance.

“We thank the fans for their discipline and compliance with security guidelines. All protocols communicated earlier remain in force, and we encourage everyone to remain alert against fraud,” he added.

Kituuma said the suspects are being processed and will be charged accordingly, warning that Police will continue to crack down on fraudsters exploiting the tournament.

“We are monitoring closely to ensure fans are not cheated. Anyone caught in this racket will face the law,” he stressed.
