The Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Frank Tumwebaze wants a global fund created to support smallholder farmers.
“We are in Rome attending the 175th session of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) council. My pitch is that partners in Agriculture must create a global fund that helps to subsidize smallholder farmers on fertilisers, vaccines and other disease control inputs. That will be the real insurance to food systems,” Tumwebaze posted on his X formerly Twitter on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.
The 175th session of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations commenced on Monday in Rome with Uganda participating.
The session, which runs until June 14, addresses key issues related to global food security and agricultural initiatives.
The FAO Council session will tackle critical topics, including global food security challenges, the effects of geopolitical events on food systems, and the execution of regional agricultural initiatives.
The FAO Council, consisting of 49 members serves as the executive arm of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, overseeing the implementation of its programs and policies.
