Nyombi stated that the summit highlights groundbreaking innovations that are changing lives across the globe and that discussions range from digital skills development to connecting those who are unconnected, reminding them of the transformative power of technology in communities.

“Additionally, we are engaging with World Bank teams about Uganda’s Digital Acceleration Project (UDAP), which is poised to significantly enhance connectivity, e-government services, and ICT adoption in our country,” he said.

The project, which was signed off in 2021 as a $60m grant and $140m loan from the World Bank, is being implemented by the National Information Technology Authority (NITA-U).

Nyombi said he was honoured to represent UCC at the summit, noting that it is a high-level event sponsored by the World Bank that focuses on digital pathways for everyone, especially underserved communities.

“I am proud to connect with Uganda’s digital champions: Dr. Aminah Zawedde, permanent secretary of the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance; Annette Ssemuwemba, deputy secretary general of the East African Community (EAC); and Emmanuel Karenzi, principal ICT officer at the EAC,” he said.

He added: “Together, we are joining global ICT leaders to shape the future of digital inclusion and innovation. Uganda is ready. The future is digital.”

The summit is being held under the theme, “Digital Pathways for All.”
