The Rotary Club of Muyenga has chartered a new club in the United Kingdom (UK).

The e-club of Uganda Diaspora Cranes, based in London, was chartered on Saturday via a hybrid ceremony held on Zoom with approximately 20 attendees on both sides.

The Rotary Club of Muyenga initiated the process to start the club in the UK.

Chartering a club means it has been approved by Rotary International to operate officially as a Rotary club from the provisional status.

Rotarians from Muyenga gathered at their club home, Hotel International Muyenga, while those in the UK joined the ceremony from the Uganda High Commission.

The event was graced by the physical presence of the district 9214 Governor, Peace Taremwa, and other Rotarians from the district administration.

The ceremony began with the Rotary norms led by the Rotary Club of Muyenga and then proceeded straight into fellowship.

The district 9214 governor then chartered the new e-club and inducted the charter members. David W. Segawa Mukasa was inducted as the charter president of the new club.

Ruth Kijjambu, the president of Muyenga Club,  gave the opening remarks, describing the UK e-club as "unique".

"We are happy today because we have given birth to a new  child,” she said and thanked everyone who supported the birth of the club.

Governor Taremwa,  who was the guest speaker, encouraged the new club members to work together towards the common good of the community.

He advised them to always follow the Rotary principles guided by the four-way test of truth, fairness, goodwill and better friendship and benefits to all concerned.

He also urged the new club to focus on adaptability, impact, reach and enhanced engagement with members and other clubs.

“We are happy because the club started when President Shekhar Mehta (former Rotary International president) told us to grow more and do more to ensure clubs increase ,embership,” said Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba, who pushed for the e-club to be formed.

The event was attended by distinguished guests in the UK, including Miriam Otengo, representative of the Uganda High Commissioner in London, and Dr. Ronald Luyinda Lutaaya, the representative of the Kabaka.

Otengo said that for years, Rotary has been recognised for its goodwill and she pledged to link the new club to the Rotary Club of Westminster.

The fellowship was brought to a close by the newly inducted members, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the e-club of Uganda Diaspora Cranes.

The new e-club becomes the 14th Rotary club to be started by the Rotary Club of Muyenga, which currently has the highest membership in Africa. The other 13 clubs are all in Uganda.

The mission of Rotary is to provide service to others, promote integrity  and advance  world understanding, goodwill and peace through fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders
