📸Uganda celebrates International Day of Older persons

The day was celebrated under the theme "Enhanced Household Incomes: a Key to Dignity and Respect for Older Persons."

JINJA - Uganda has today joined the rest of the global community in commemorating the International Day of Older Persons (IDOP).

The celebrations took place today (Wednesday, October 1) at St. John Secondary School playground in Jinja district.

Uganda's Vice President, Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo, presided over the ceremony, and the minister in charge of people with disabilities, Hellen Asamo, and the minister in charge of older persons, Dominic Gidudu Mafabi, welcomed her as she arrived for the function. 

The day was celebrated under the theme "Enhanced Household Incomes: a Key to Dignity and Respect for Older Persons."

Representing  President Yoweri Museveni at the function, Alupo toured stalls of exhibitors and the medical camp at the celebration. 

In attendance at the function were central government, religious and cultural leaders, among other older persons.
