Uganda and South Korea to hold investment meeting in 2026

Uganda and the Republic of Korea will hold an investment meeting in partnership with the Korea International Trade Association (KITA) in early 2026.

This announcement was made by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bagiire Vincent Waiswa while meeting Gi-Hyun Kim, the Vice President/International Cooperation Group of Korea International Trade Association (KITA). 

The engagement on November 03, took place at the Trade Tower Building in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, Republic of Korea.  The Uganda delegation included Tophace Kaahwa, Uganda’s Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Minister Nurh Byarufu and Evelyn Ngalonsa, Counsellor.

According to a brief from MoFA, Bagiire hailed the warm relations between Uganda and the Republic of Korea.

He emphasised the need for technology transfer as well as investment promotion from Korea to Uganda within the Agro-industrialisation, Tourism, Mineral development and Science, Technology and Innovation sectors. (ATMS).

Relatedly, Gi-Hyun welcomed Uganda’s proposal for a Uganda-Korea investment meeting and pledged to work with Uganda in organising the meeting.

The KITA officials emphasised the importance of preparation for the Ugandan Business Community in engaging with the Korean business market in order to attract and secure business investments in Uganda. 

They took the opportunity to invite the Government of Uganda to establish a resident Embassy in Korea in order to inspire confidence in the Korean market.

On March 26, 1963, the Republic of Korea and Uganda agreed to begin bilateral relations. 

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea was commissioned in that very year, but closed its doors in 1994. It reopened in May 2011, and quickly became a fully-fledged embassy on December 30, 2011.
