MUKONO - Uganda Christian University (UCU) School of Law has mourned the sudden death of one of their staff, Raphael Okiot, a tutor assistant who perished in an accident at the Nkumba roundabout on Entebbe Road on Wednesday morning.

Okiot met his death while stopped at the traffic lights at Nkumba in his vehicle, registration number UBQ 371P, when a truck registration number UAN 836B, a cement mixer, lost control and fell onto his car.

The Associate Dean, School of Law, Miriam Achieng told New Vision that Okiot had served in the school for the last five years.

“He has been a hardworking and dedicated staff member who has always been timely as far as executing his assignments is concerned. We are so saddened about his death and as the School of Law, we have indeed lost a valuable resource,” Achieng said.

School of Law assistant registrar Clair Arinaitwe Mwebaze said surprisingly, they were with Okiot on Tuesday, and on Saturday, they conducted the school’s pre-entry interviews, and he was one of the panelists.

“This dark cloud that has downed us is so heavy. Okiot has been one of our hardworking tutorial assistants whom we shall cherish forever, may your soul rest in peace,” she mourned.

Tonny Tumukunde, the speaker of the UCU Alumni Association and former classmate of Okiot, said they were friends who laughed, partied, and read together.

“We shared rooms when we came back from the nightlife. We survived an accident just a few days before my introduction! I saw you being cut out of the wreckage and felt life is just a mere paper! Rest well brother,” Tumukunde wrote on his X handle.
