A heartbreaking incident unfolded at Abarilela trading centre in Amuria district on July 29, 2025, when a two-year-old boy lost his life during a scuffle between his mother and a 17-year-old girl over a smartphone.
According to police, the juvenile had lent her phone to Alice Titin, the mother of the deceased child, several months ago. However, when she recently demanded its return, Titin reportedly refused.
The situation escalated on Tuesday at around 8:30pm, when the juvenile, armed with a kitchen knife, confronted Titin.
In the ensuing struggle, the knife allegedly stabbed the child, Isaac Akau, in the throat, killing him instantly.
Whether the stabbing was accidental is a matter that police detectives are still investigating.
Amuria district police commander Benedicto Igama confirmed the incident, stating that the juvenile has been apprehended and is facing murder charges.
"The juvenile has recorded a statement, and we are finalising her file before arraigning her in court," Igama said.
A post-mortem report revealed that the child died from excessive bleeding caused by a deep cut to the throat. The case is under investigation under reference number CRB 272/2025 at Amuria Central Police Station.
The community is still reeling from the shock, and a meeting was convened by the LC3 chairperson, Michael Eluluma, to bring together relatives of both the deceased child and the juvenile.
