Two people are still missing while eight others have been rescued after a taxi plunged into River Nyagak in Zombo district.

The taxi was travelling to Warr subcounty from Bweyale when the accident occurred.

The vehicle regularly operates along the same route, but according to the LC3 chairperson of Paidha town council, Innocent Geoffrey Onegi, it failed to negotiate a sharp corner near the bridge and fell into the water.

The survivors are currently admitted to Nyapea Hospital in Zombo district.

Onegi said drivers face challenges because there are no road signs on the stretch of road, despite vehicles often travelling at high speed.

"Just last week, a Lorry truck fell towards the bridge, and properties were destroyed," he said.

He added that the bridge is too narrow and that there is a need to install barricades on the sides to prevent accidents, similar to those on Pakwach Bridge.

By press time, police had not issued a statement on the incident.
