Police in Gomba are investigating the circumstances that led to a fatal road crash that left two people dead and four others critically injured.
The crash occurred on the Mpigi-Gomba road at Wasinda village, Kanoni town council in Gomba district in the wee hours on Monday morning.
Katonga region Police publicist Lydia Tumushabe identified the deceased as Lailahana Naluwoza, 30 and a yet-to-be-identified male juvenile who perished on the spot.
The accident happened after the driver of a speeding Toyota Wish UBL 019G, which was heading in the direction of Gomba, lost control and veered off the road and crashed into a trench.
The injured victims were rushed to Gombe Hospital where they are still receiving treatment, but still unconscious and the deceased's bodies were conveyed to Gombe Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
The wreckage of the car was towed to Kanoni Police Station in Gomba district where it is parked now.
Tumushabe cautioned users of this new Mpigi-Kanoni-Sembabule route to exercise discipline while using the road and also to avoid speed.
"We continue to caution all road users to exercise discipline and also be careful while driving on the new Mpigi-Kanoni-Sembabule route," Tumushabe said.
This comes barely a week after Douglas Matovu, who was the guild president of the Kampala International University's western campus, perished in a crash on May 20, at Bulwadda, Gomba district on the Mpigi-Gomba road
Several fatal car crashes have occurred on the Mpigi-Gomba road after the traffic Police diverted traffic from Masaka-Kampala road after River Katonga swelled and part of Katonga bridge was swept away.
