Kira Municipality enforcement officers have demolished two fuel stations in Najera and Nkungu Zone respectively.
The law enforcement officer who did not want his name to be mentioned said one of the stations belongs to David Nsereko while Jet Energies is owned by Rehema Namayega in Nkungu zone.
In November 2020, the National Physical Planning Board (NPPB) directed all district chief administrative officers (CAOs), city clerks and Municipal Town Clerks to suspend the approval of development applications for fuel stations and unapproved structures until developers meet operational guidelines.
The decision followed the board’s interaction with district local leaders during the creation of new cities in a move to streamline physical plans in the country.
The board’s director, David Wamai, said previously they were warning and giving the developers notice but now they are breaking all the illegal structures and fuel stations.
“Grace period is over, now we have started demolishing the illegal fuel stations, last year we started by sensitizing the population in the ten cities and municipalities about the illegal structures and the danger of illegal structures,” he said.
"Structures are the only ones that are not approved by the National Physical planning board. Am appealing to the population that those with illegal structures which are not approved by the board go to their respective physical planning committees," he added.
