A fatal road crash claimed the lives of two young men in Arua city on Easter Sunday morning.

The incident occurred at around 10:20 am on Onduparaka Road, in Oria-Adumi cell, Ayivu West Division.

Arua City Police confirmed the accident involved a Mercedes-Benz trailer and a numberless Hunter motorcycle.

According to West Nile Region Police spokesperson Collins Asea, the motorcycle rider, who was carrying a passenger, attempted to overtake the trailer at high speed on a slippery section of the road, while another motorcycle approached from the opposite direction.

Both riders lost control and fell. Tragically, the rider who tried to overtake the trailer, which was heading in the same direction from Arua City to DR Congo, fell under the rear tyres of the truck.

The deceased, 24-year-old Draku and his 22-year-old brother, Adriko Joshua, died instantly.

A source revealed that the brothers had been sent to buy meat from the nearby Lia Trading Centre, but decided to ride as far as Arua city. They met their fate while rushing back home.

Their bodies were taken to the mortuary for post-mortem examination.

The Congolese trailer driver, identified as Kambale Madirisha Roman, has been detained. The trailer and motorcycle are in the custody of the Arua City Central Police Station.

Authorities are urging all road users to observe traffic regulations and ride responsibly to avoid similar tragedies.
