Two arrested over businesswoman’s murder in Kakumiro

Police in the Albertine region have confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the robbery and brutal murder of a businesswoman and resident of Kakumiro district.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, identified the two prime suspects as Jordan Kibuka (25) and Semata, also known as Kidewalime (23).

He said the two were arrested in connection with the murder of Victoria Namulindwa (38), a resident of Rwensera B Cell in Kakumiro district.

"On February 27, 2026, Namulindwa was violently attacked at her home by the suspects, who were armed with heavy sticks. During the attack, three of her children and their maid were also seriously injured," Hakiza said.

All the victims, police said, were rushed to Mubende Hospital for medical treatment.

"Unfortunately, Namulindwa later succumbed to the injuries she sustained during the assault. The other victims are currently receiving medical care and are reported to be in stable condition and expected to recover, " Hakiza added.

Hakiza explained that preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects had been targeting homes within Kakumiro district, using heavy sticks as their weapon of choice, with the primary intention of committing robberies.

The attack, police said, is believed to have been premeditated, and the suspects are also suspected of having been involved in similar criminal incidents in the area.

"Investigations are ongoing to establish the full extent of their criminal activities and to ensure the continued safety of residents in Kakumiro district," Hakiza stated.

He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police station.

"Community cooperation remains vital in the fight against crime. The safety and security of our communities remain our top priority, and we are committed to ensuring that all perpetrators are brought to justice, " Hakiza said.
