A court in Luwero district has remanded two people over allegedly grabbing land.

Baguma Obed and James Kakuru were remanded on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, after denying charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm to residents of Manyama Village, Zirobwe sub-county in Luwero district.

Police preliminary investigations reveal that the duo working for an alleged notorious land grabber identified as Rutangambwa, have for years allegedly been terrorising over 3,000 residents of Manyama and Budima villages so as to force them off their ancestral land.

Investigations further disclose that Rutangambwa has been allegedly hiring goons from different parts of the country to commit heinous crimes and excessive violence against the residents.

Lands minister Judith Nabakooba had earlier visited the villages and requested the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) to commence investigations into the matter. This resulted in the arrest of the suspects.

The Police Crime Report reveals that Luwero witnessed the highest number of cases of malicious damage to property in 2022, with 172 cases reported.
