Grief has engulfed Agama A in Soroti West Division, Soroti City, following the discovery of the body of a three-year-old child floating at a brick-making site.

Joash Emaju, a baby class pupil at Little Angel Nursery and Primary School in Entebbe Municipality, reportedly went missing on September 15 2025.

He had been in the village for only six days, where his aunt, Hellen Apila, had taken him for holidays, and was due to return this week.

The child disappeared from home on Monday, under unclear circumstances. His absence was noticed at 7 pm, and despite a night-long search by relatives, Emaju could not be found.

On Tuesday morning, the family made a radio announcement in the hope of recovering him alive. Shortly afterwards, his body was discovered floating in water at a nearby brick-making site.

The Soroti City West police commander, Rashid Byansi, confirmed the registration of a case of a child drowning.

He did not disclose how the child drowned but promised that detectives would investigate further.

The boy’s father, Yuventino Angela, is a traffic police officer attached to Naguru in Kampala.

Apila, who has been living with the child in Entebbe, said she had taken him to the village while she returned to work in Entebbe.

They were shocked when they were informed of his disappearance and subsequent death.

Apila said she has been living with the child since he was five months old after his mother became ill and developed a mental condition.

“We can’t really tell what happened in the village,” Apila, who was on her way from Entebbe, said on the phone.

The child’s body was recovered on Tuesday, and the police said a post-mortem examination would be conducted before it was released to the family.

By press time, Byansi noted he was not in possession of the autopsy report. No arrests had been made.
