Three members of the same family, including a three-year-old, have tragically died in a house fire in Mubende district.

The fire broke out at around 2am on Tuesday, Police said.

This happened in Kyambogo village, Kigogwa parish in Kalonga sub-county.

Although the actual cause of the fire was not immediately established, a burning candle inside the house is believed to have been the source.

Wamala region Police spokesperson, Rachael Kawala, said the victims were sleeping at that late hour.

She said three other occupants of the house survived with serious injuries and were taken to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition.

The deceased were identified as 40-year-old Innocent Bezahehe Lukara, Annet Mbabazi, 11, and three-year-old Esther Namata.

Kawala said the bodies were moved to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital's mortuary for postmortem examinations.

As investigations continued, she urged the public to ensure that luminous materials such as burning candles are placed at a safe distance from flammable materials such as curtains and mattresses to avoid potential fire outbreaks.
