Three suspects were on Friday, April 24, 2026, arraigned before the Makindye Magistrates Court on charges of intermeddling with the estate of a deceased person, eviction of a lawful or bona fide occupant, destroying growing plants, forcible entry, malicious damage to property, theft, and trespassing on burial grounds.

The three were arrested by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU), working with the Criminal Investigation Directorate and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP).

A statement released by SHACU named the suspects as Umar Male, Hood Nsereko Mukasa Ssembatya and Janat Namboze Nsubuga.

SHACU explained that, "It's alleged that between 2024 and 2025, the accused together with others still at large, violently and unlawfully entered land approximately 4 acres located at Ndejje-Lubugumu in Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality, Wakiso District, belonging to the estate of the late Ibrahim Katerega."

"They reportedly evicted lawful bona fide occupants without a court order, destroyed plantations, demolished houses with property still inside, and stole belongings with the help of armed goons allegedly deployed with machetes and sticks," the statement said.

"The accused are also said to have fenced off the land, including burial grounds, thereby denying the rightful beneficiaries access to the estate of the late Katerega," SHACU added.

SHACU said investigations further indicate that, without letters of administration, they participated in the sale of three acres of the deceased’s estate.
They were remanded until April 29, 2026.
