Three Mubende officials arrested over abuse of office, duty neglect

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) in conjunction with the Uganda Police Force on Thursday, April 18, 2024, arrested three Mubende district local government officials over allegations of abuse of office and neglect of duty.

Those arrested are district engineer John Baptist Muzibira, civil engineer John Kamya Birungi and Vito Ssendikadiwa Bosco, the acting district health officer.

In a statement released on Thursday, SHACU said: “It's alleged that Ssendikadiwa, being the contract manager and the two engineers, being the project supervisors, failed to effectively manage the project, which resulted into non-completion and visible shoddy work of an extension of a maternity ward and construction of the waiting shed at Kibalinga Health III in Mubende district local government.”

The trio have been detained at Mubende Central Police Station as investigations are finalised before they appear before court.

The 2021 scientific report by the Inspectorate of Government revealed that Uganda loses shillings 10 trillion due to corruption, citing taxation and procurement as two of the five conduits and facilitators of corruption.
