The Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesman, Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed the incident and identified the victims as 12-year-old Ela Namiiro, Aman Sarah Namuleme, 5, and Tara Namujju, 3.

Preliminary findings, according to the Police, indicated that the mother, identified as Julie Nalubwama, had left the children unattended to while the father, identified as Lenon Kavuma, was away in Jinja for work.

"The fire, which broke out at about 1:00 am, was reported to the Police by the local LC1 Chairperson. The Fire and Rescue Services responded promptly and extinguished the blaze," Owoyesigyire said.

He added that the bodies were recovered outside the burnt house, while the third was found inside, burnt beyond recognition.

He said that they reached the scene, obtained the relevant information and recommended statements from witnesses. The bodies were conveyed to the City Mortuary for postmortem examination as investigations into the cause of the fire continued.
