Thousands throng pre-royal wedding medical camp

JINJA - Thousands have attended the pre-Royal wedding medical camp, ongoing at Busoga Kingdom headquarters. 

The three-day medical camp was organized by Busoga Kingdom's Ministry of Health in partnership with Busoga Health Forum. 

The camp, which was officially launched by Busoga Kingdom's Affairs Minister, Joan Machora Kitto on November 15, ends today. 

According to Sheila Birungi Gandi, the Busoga Kingdom's health minister, 1,722 patients were treated on day one and added that they are yet to compile results for Day two and three.

Gandi said 150 patients were worked on by the Eye department, General surgery (64), Maternal child health (11), HIV testing (225), dental (135), family planning (73), mental health (26), Nutrition (15), Ultrasound scan (41), NCD screening (127), Occupational and Orthopedic (84) and Adolescent Health and SRHR (98). 

Those worked on Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) illnesses were 66, General clinic (446) and deworming 161, making a total number of 1722 patients treated on day one. 

44 people donated blood and Soul Hope distributed over 1000 pairs of shoes to people for the two days. 

The camp is expected to close today (Friday) in the evening by Busoga Kingdom's Health Minister Sheila Birungi Gandi. 

Event partners and sponsors selected included district local governments in Busoga, General Hospitals, Jinja Regional Referral Hospital, Rays of Hope Hospice Jinja, Kyabirwa Surgical Centre, MBN Lab, UHA, (LHSP-MJAP), AIC, TASO, RHU, AMREF, +256 Youth Platform, Hope and healing Centre, Uganda Red Cross Society, Jinja Joint lab, Imperial Hospital, AFri-egypt Medical Centre, Sole Hope, UDHA, MUCOBADI, Musana Community Development Organization, and Brac Uganda.

Others included Uganda Stop TB Partnership, Marie Stopes, PSI, Uganda Blood Bank and Ministry of Health (MOH), pharmaceutical companies within and outside the region (Eco pharm, Friecca, Mwesigwa Pharmacy etc), Health training institutions (Jinja School of Nursing, Lubega School of Nursing, Iganga School of Nursing, Wakiso Institute of Health Sciences, Jinja International, Jinja School of Ophthalmic Clinical Officers, etc) and Rotary Clubs in Eastern region.
