Thousands gather at Gaddafi Mosque to celebrate Eid al-Fitr

Thousands of Muslim faithful gathered at the Uganda National Mosque, popularly known as Gaddafi Mosque, to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadhan on Sunday.

The day started with families arriving at the mosque, dressed in their finest outfits to attend Eid prayers. The mosque, which holds deep cultural and spiritual significance in the heart of Old Kampala, was filled with an atmosphere of serenity and devotion.

The mosque’s courtyard, which typically serves as a serene place of worship, was filled with worshippers who exchanged pleasantries as they waited for the prayers to commence.

The faithful were appreciated for their strong commitment during Ramadhan.

"Eid is a time for us to celebrate the completion of a spiritual journey, but it is also a reminder of our responsibility to help those in need and to strengthen the bonds of community," a sheikh said as the Muslims converged for the prayers.

In a sign of generosity, the mosque distributed food packages and clothing to underprivileged families within the surrounding areas, in line with the tradition of giving during Eid. The mosque also hosted a community feast, where both locals and visitors shared a meal in the spirit of fellowship and generosity.

The celebrations at Old Kampala Mosque represent more than just a religious observance; they are a testament to the strength of community bonds.

The spirit of togetherness and mutual support was evident as families, friends, and neighbours gathered to mark this significant day.
