NAMAYINGO - Police have launched investigations into a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy on the Jinja Highway.

The deceased has been identified as Edwin Sanya, a resident of Budidi cell, Budidi ward in Namayingo town council.

According to Michael Kasadha, the Busoga East regional police spokesperson, the incident occurred on Monday (April 6), at around 4:00 am in Bulamba cell, Bulamba ward.

“Preliminary findings indicate that the juvenile was walking by the roadside when a speeding motorcycle, whose registration number is yet to be established, knocked him,” Kasadha said.

He added that the victim sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Shalom Medical Centre, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Kasadha noted that the motorcycle rider, identified as Vincent Kabende, also sustained head injuries and is currently admitted at Victory Medical Centre.

“The scene was visited and documented by traffic officers, and the body is being kept at Shalom Medical Centre pending postmortem,” he said.

Police say the motorcycle involved was removed from the scene by unknown individuals, but efforts are underway to trace and impound it as investigations continue.
“The suspected cause of the accident is overspeeding,” Kasadha added.

The latest incident adds to a growing number of hit-and-run cases reported across the country.

Over the weekend, Kikuube district LC5 chairperson Banura Peter Araali died in a similar hit-and-run crash after being knocked down by a speeding vehicle in Butyamba village.

The driver fled the scene, although the vehicle was later recovered by police.
Authorities say such incidents continue to complicate investigations, even as they intensify operations to track down fleeing drivers and riders involved in fatal crashes.
