Police in Nsangi have launched investigations into a burglary and theft incident that left a suspected thief with a severed hand after he was allegedly attacked by a homeowner in Kyengera Town Council.
The incident happened at about 9:00pm on May 8, 2026, in Mungo A Cell.
The suspect has been identified as Sango Joseph, a resident of Kazinga Cell in Nsangi Sub-county.
According to preliminary police findings, Sango allegedly broke into a house in Mungo A Cell at an unknown time, tied up household property, and reportedly stole several items.
Police say the suspect is believed to have returned to the scene to collect the remaining property when he was confronted by the homeowner, who allegedly cut off his hand using a panga.
The injured suspect was rushed to the hospital for treatment as police commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“It is alleged that the suspect had broken into a house and stolen property before returning for more, where he was confronted by the homeowner. Investigations into the matter are ongoing,” said Racheal Kawala, Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) spokesperson.
