Sudan’s ambassador hails Uganda army’s role in regional peace

WAKISO - Sudan’s Ambassador to Uganda, Ahmed Ibrahim Ahmed, has commended the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces’ (UPDF) for promoting regional peace and security. 

The Sudanese diplomat has also expressed Sudan’s eagerness to restore military co-operation.

The remarks were delivered during a meeting with Uganda's Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, at the Special Forces Command headquarters in Entebbe, Wakiso district.

The army, in a statement, said the diplomat was on October 1, 2025, accompanied by Maj. Gen. Dr. Faisal Al Tayeb Ali Khogali, the Military Attaché of the Republic of Sudan to Uganda.



Kainerugaba welcomed the Ambassador and expressed Uganda’s optimism about achieving total peace in Sudan.

The CDF also acknowledged the longstanding relations between the two countries, dating back to when Sudan allowed UPDF to pursue its enemies in present-day South Sudan.

Gen Kainerugaba also highlighted Uganda’s willingness to cooperate with Sudan, mirroring its partnerships with other African countries.

The CDF has been actively engaging in diplomatic efforts to strengthen regional partnerships, recently meeting with South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit to discuss security cooperation, peace initiatives, and economic collaboration. He has also met several regional Presidents and African military leaders.

Uganda and Sudan enjoy excellent fraternal bilateral relations and strong historical bonds of friendship and solidarity firmly anchored on the principle of Pan-Africanism.

In December 2022,  Uganda and the Republic of Sudan successfully held a joint political consultation committee meeting (JPCC) in Khartoum.



The main objective of the meeting was to bolster and enhance bilateral cooperation in the political, economic, peace and security cluster/ sector for the mutual benefit of both countries.

The bilateral relations between the two countries were mainly pursued through bilateral frameworks of cooperation, such as the Joint Permanent Cooperation Committee (JPCC), which is hosted on a rotational basis between both countries.

The previous Joint Political Consultation Committee meeting was held in Kampala in December 2018.

This 5th JPCC meeting held in Khartoum was co-chaired by Vincent Bagiire Waiswa, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Daffa’alla Al-Haj Ali, the Under Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Sudan.
