KAMPALA - The Buganda Road Chief Magistrates' Court in Kampala has charged and remanded a Senior Three student for allegedly impersonating and cheating businessman Hamis Kiggundu.
The charges respectively contravene Sections 287 and 354(1) of the Penal Code Act, Cap 128.
Ruth Nandase, 18, aboding at Bugabwe village, Nakigo Sub-county in Iganga district was on Wednesday (April 23, 2025) read the charges by Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizi.
Nandase, was charged alongside Manharah Babu, 32, a builder, who resides at Bugambwe village in Iganga, who both denied the charges, and Frank Sempa, 25, a hawker of Bulubandi village in Iganga district.
The state prosecutor Ivan Kyazze informed court that investigations regarding the case were still ongoing. The court also issued criminal summons against Sempa, who was not in court.
Charges
Prosecution alleges that between 2023 and February 2024, at diverse places within the Central Division in Kampala district, with intent to defraud various persons, Nandase, Babu, Sempa, and others still at large, falsely represented themselves to be Hamis Kiggundu of Hamis Enterprises Ltd, whereas not.
It is further alleged that on January 29, in the same place, Sempa obtained sh50,000 from Shafic Kawooya by fraudulently tricking or devising, namely that he was Kiggundu of Hamis Enterprises Ltd, and that he was going to secure a loan for the said Kawooya, whereas not.
