Kenya's Strathmore University Business School and Uganda's Vision Group are seeking ways to grow their partnership.
A team from the university recently paid a courtesy visit to Vision Group's top brass led by chief executive officer Don Wanyama and chief human resources officer Gloria Agira at their head office in Kampala.
The university team included executive dean Dr Ceaser Mwangi, Strathmore Global Institute’s (SGI) regional director Daisy Saina and SGI-Uganda’s acting country director Francis Thenge and its business development manager, Cedric Kigoonya.
Agira said Strathmore University has been running Women in Leadership (WIL) training workshops for Vision Group staff every year since 2019.
“So, it was a pleasure to meet with the Strathmore team and it was basically a meet-and-greet with us but also an opportunity for them to have a partnership with New Vision,” she said.
Agira also said they will engage further to partner with the university, especially through signing memoranda of understanding to enable staff from various departments to receive opportunities for leadership training and the university to leverage media campaigns as indicated by Wanyama during their meeting.
“New Vision will support them in making them widely known as Strathmore University because we have so many Ugandans who send their children there to study,” she added.
Some of the recently trained Vision Group staff include Joy Abo, a senior multimedia producer in the department of content generation.

“Their training is practical and relevant, developing both your career and your personal life. They believe that if you are not balanced and organised in your personal life, it will be difficult for you to make it in your professional life. So, their rich training enables you to acquire both hard and soft skills,” she said.
Abo explained that hard skills include effective management or leadership and soft skills also involve effective communication that goes beyond your words to how you present yourself.
“So, they empower you with all those skills. They keep picking different professionals. For example, in our group we had people from legal, audit marketing and human resource fields,” she said.
Dr Mwangi has been urging graduates to become agents of change, not just within their workplaces, but also in their communities and spheres of influence.
At the recent graduation ceremony, he emphasised the importance of transformational leadership and the responsibility to care for people, the planet, and the community, while challenging all present to strive for greater impact.
The 48 graduates came from three classes, namely the Management Development Programme, Women in Leadership, and Senior Management Development Programme.
