Stop tarnishing our name, FDC tells Katonga faction

Apr 09, 2024

Kikonyogo said the main objective in starting the FDC was to overthrow the sitting government but not fight fellow Opposition parties and they will not just sit back when their names are tarnished.

According to him, the FDC Katonga Road-based faction is free to start the new party but not after tarnishing those that brought them into the limelight.

The Najjanankumbi-based Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has threatened to seek legal action against its Katonga faction over what it has termed as mudslinging and soiling the name of the party.

The Katonga Road-based Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) faction on March 11, 2024, started a consultative process that could see it break away and form a new political party or pressure group ahead of the 2026 general elections.

The process, which will end in two months, will determine whether the group should break away from the Najjanankumbi-headquartered party or remain fighting within under a new pressure group.

However, during this exercise, FDC spokesperson John Kikonyogo on Monday, April 8, 2024, said their counterparts instead of conducting consultations, are using their rallies to speak ill against the party leadership at Najanankumbi and the party.

Until October 6, 2023, when FDC held their national executive committee elections in a national delegates’ conference, the party had been embroiled in fights among top leaders, which resulted in the creation of a faction based at Katonga Road in Kampala headed by former party leader Kiiza Besigye and Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago.

Katonga Road is home to Besigye’s private offices.

Kikonyogo also mourned the death of their former deputy secretary for publicity Sarah Eperu who passed on over the weekend.
