The Police in Moroto district say they have recovered 10 drums of electricity conductors, part of the 30 that were stolen from UEDCL’s Lugogo disposal/stores yard in Kampala city.
The conductors that went missing between March and August 2025 were recovered last night on a tip-off at sunbird clinker factory premises under construction, some 12 kilometres along Soroti road from Moroto town.
Also, it has been established that the conductors were meant to be utilised in the connection of power to Kabulasoke in Gomba district.
According to the intelligence reports, the Police headquarters deployed its officers who tracked down the suspicious stolen conductors from Lugogo to Moroto.
The detectives were able to impound unspecified metres of conductors, being kept at the Moroto Central Police station yard as exhibits.
During the 7.00pm, August 26, 2025, raid on the factory, at least two suspects were arrested among others who fled in disarray under the cover of darkness. Both are in custody at the Moroto Central Police Station.
Suddenly, they have been identified as workers of an engineering company contracted to build a 33kV line from Loputuk sub-station to the clinker line in Moroto district.
Some of the officials from the engineering company, a Kampala-based contractor who have been utilising the conductors to build the new power line to the factory, told the Police that they had bought the conductors from Lugogo yard before they fled.
The district Police commander Moroto, Irene Aceng, when contacted, acknowledged the matter on August 26, 2025.
She, however, referred the subject to the Karamoja Police region spokesperson Mike Longole for details.
“The details of the recovery are with the Police communication officer,” Aceng said.
Officials from the multibillion clinker/ cement factory declined to comment on the matter.
