Sheikh Yasin Senyonga aka Babyesiza has been charged with unlawful possession of military equipment at the General Court Martial in Kampala and remanded until June 18, 2024.
The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) deputy spokesperson, Col. Deo Akiiki, said this in a brief statement on Friday (May 24) shortly after the court proceedings at Makindye.
He said on or around May 2, 2023, Senyonga, while at Mbiko in Buikwe district, was found in unlawful possession of two magazines containing 23 rounds of live submachine gun ammunition.
“The said ammunition ordinarily being the monopoly of the Defense Forces and he will come back to court on June 18, 2024,” Akiiki said.
The UPDF Act subjects every person found in unlawful possession of arms, ammunition, equipment and other prescribed classified stores ordinarily being the monopoly of the army to the military law.
