Serbia and Uganda are exploring collaborative opportunities in various sectors, including technology, tourism and education to strengthen bilateral relations.

In a meeting with Uganda’s delegation led by trade state minister Gen. Wilson Mbadi on Thursday, October 24, Serbia’s tourism and youth minister Husein Memic underscored the importance of tourism as one of the vital sectors for economic development between the two countries.

The meeting took place in Serbia’s city of Niš ahead of the Trade Co-operation Joint Commission session, which was held on Friday (October 25).

Memic expressed Serbia’s willingness to share best tourism practices and experiences with Uganda, according to a statement by Rowland Nkahebwa, the communications officer of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development (PACEID).

He noted that the two countries could benefit from joint tourism initiatives that promote cultural exchange and attract international visitors.

Prof. Mladen Sarcevic, the advisor to Serbia’s President on education, presented to the delegation during the meeting an innovative exchange program designed to facilitate knowledge transfer and skill development between the two nations.

He said the two countries can collaborate in exchanging education programs for students and professors.

Gen. Mbadi emphasised the need for both nations to invest in research and development, as well as innovation, to stay competitive in a rapidly changing global landscape, while PACEID chairman Odrek Rwabwogo and his entire team expressed enthusiasm about the potential for collaboration.

“We want to look at this trade agreement and set up a trade commission to negotiate for entry of Ugandan goods into Serbia tax free or at reduced tax while ensuring standards are maintained on both sides,” Rwabwogo, who is also the senior presidential advisor on special duties, said.

Uganda’s ambassador to Rome, Elizabeth Paula Napeyok, also attended the meeting.
