Dr. Ruth Senyonyi has handed over the rotational presidency of Mother’s Union to Grace Murengezi, a renowned economist from the Diocese of Kampala.

Senyonyi handed over the office to Murengezi a retired economist today during the Mothers' Union Annual General Meeting held at Lweza Training and Conference Centre. Murengezi becomes the 7th Provincial Mothers' Union President.

The ceremony was presided over by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu; Rev Canon William Ongeng, the Provincial Secretary and Rev Simon Peter Ddembe, the Director of Mission and Outreach.

In an interview with New Vision, Murengezi said that she is going to continue with the Mother’s Union Vision of Christian care for family and also continue to advocate for stable families because when the family is stable, the Nation is also stable.

“Through teamwork, I am going to advocate for both the boy and girl child education because all of them have to be groomed,” Murengezi said.

The mother union’s theme for this year is ‘United for service and growth’; it was picked from Ephesians 4:11-16. It calls for Christians to work as a team.

Past Provincial Mothers' Union Presidents are; Geraldine Kauma, Canon Gwennie Rukare, Canon Jolly Babirukamu, Vivian Kityo, Rev. Canon. Dr. Edidah Mujinya and Canon Dr. Ruth Senyonyi.

During the same meeting, members elected Regional Presidents and Community Development Coordinators (CDCs) as follows;
Western Uganda
President- Jean Magezi (North West Ankole Diocese)
CDC: Olive Magezi (West Ankole Diocese)
Eastern Uganda
President: Natasha Isabirye Kagoya (Busoga Diocese)
CDC: Betty Taata Nesihwe (Bukedi Diocese)
Central Uganda
President: Roseline Biingi Kawiso (Namirembe Diocese)
CDC: Janet Kibuuka (West Buganda Diocese)
Northern Uganda
President: Canon Grace Kissa (Lango Diocese)
CDC: Rev. Capt. Hellen Munduru (Madi West Nile Diocese).
According to Barbara Mugisha, the Mothers' Union and Family Life Ministry coordinator, the rest of the committee positions will be filled by the Mothers' Union Council, which will sit very soon.
