Assistant Superintendent of Police Clive Nsiima Barigye has been charged with allegedly assaulting a female attendant at a petrol station in Kyanja, a Kampala City suburb.

Barigye, a counter terrorism officer attached to oil and gas, is accused of unlawfully assaulting Pellan Atuhumuriize, thereby occasioning her actual bodily harm.

He is also accused of damaging Atuhumuriize’s mobile smartphone. Barigye allegedly committed the offences on October 7, 2025.

The Police officer, Monday (October 13), appeared before Senior Principal Grade One Magistrate Nicholas Aisu and denied the charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and malicious damage.

Senior State Prosecutor Mercy Yamangusho informed the court that investigations into the matter are still ongoing.

“I pray that you adjourn the case to another date to allow the police officers to complete investigations into the matter,” she requested.

On Tuesday, (October 7), a video circulated on social media depicting a male client assaulting a female attendant at a Shell fuel station, when she reportedly asked him to pay for items he had purchased amounting to shillings 30,000.

It is purported that Barigye smacked the young woman in the face before slapping her again. She then cried loudly, attracting the attention of other people, including a security guard.

The matter was later reported to Kyanja Police Post.

The magistrate remanded the accused to Luzira Prison until October 16, when he will return to court for his bail ruling.
