Semivolos, outgoing Russian ambassador bids farewell to Minister Oryem

Ambassador Semivolos, who has worked in Uganda for four years and five months, noted that his posting to Uganda has been "the most consequential" of his career, all this attributed to the great working relationship with the host country.

Vladlen Semivolos, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Uganda, on Friday paid a courtesy call to Henry Okello Oryem, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (International Affairs), to bid farewell as his tour of duty comes to an end.


During the meeting, on March 27 at the ministry headquarters in Kampala, Oryem praised Ambassador Semivolos' outstanding contribution to the strengthening and consolidation of Uganda-Russia relations, attributing it to his unique personality and excellent diplomatic skills.

A release from his office states that Oryem reflected on the historical relations between Uganda and Russia, highlighting Russia's support for the liberation of Southern African countries from colonialism and its role in lifting sanctions imposed on Uganda and other East African countries.

Ambassador Semivolos expressed gratitude for the warm reception and friendly connections established during his tenure in Uganda. He highlighted his achievements, including blocking a resolution at the UN Security Council to sanction Uganda's gold production, and the signing of several bilateral agreements and Memoranda of Understanding in areas such as visa waiver, health, agriculture, security, and ICT.
