ARUA - People employed as security guards by New Uganda Securiko Limited on Monday, June 3, locked the firm’s offices in Arua district over alleged nonpayment of salary arrears. 

The group and their supervisors deployed across the West Nile region, are demanding three months of accumulated salary arrears.  

It is alleged after locking the office, the group reported the case to Awindiri Police Post where they expressed their dissatisfaction over the nonpayment. 

One guard who spoke to New Vision on condition of anonymity, and is deployed to guard one of the firm’s clients in Arua city, said he failed to pay school fees for his children while his landlord has threatened to throw him out of the two-roomed house he rents. 

“I last received my salary in March and until now, nothing is in my account. Where do my bosses expect to get money to pay my children’s school fees? My landlord wants me to leave his house. This is too much for me, I only need my salary as I work,” he said. 

Another guard who requested anonymity blamed the management of the Arua office for not giving employees timely information. 

One of the supervisors working with the New Uganda Securiko Limited in Arua City who also preferred anonymity told New Vision that since April, they have not been paid despite being deployed to work. 

“It is now five months for the supervisors while for the security guards, it is three months of not receiving salaries. No one here can give us the explanation since the manager is never in the office,” the supervisor said. 

Calls to the known phone numbers of Boniface Akena the manager of the New Uganda Securiko Limited Arua branch, for a comment, went unanswered.
