The water and environment ministry is set to hold the second National Appropriate Technologies Expo this month in Kampala.

The exhibition will showcase technologies that can be adopted for advancing Uganda's development agenda.

The ministry, through its applied research and development arm, has partnered with Makerere University to organise the upcoming three-day expo.

It will get under way on January 19 at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds and will be open to the public, the organisers say.

In a statement, the ministry urged inventors, innovators, technology promoters, policy makers and other stakeholders with innovation to take part.

Some of the technology categories expected at the expo include;

- Sustainable water

- Supply and ground water management

- Sustainable sanitation management

- Sustainable and clean energy

- Food security and nutrition

- Healthy lives and wellness

- Climate smart technologies

- Natural resources management and circular economy

The expo is themed: 'Showcasing appropriate technologies to spur socio-economic development'.

It is intended to spearhead the goals of the National Development Plan (NDPIII) and the Uganda Vision 2040.

Besides also catalyzing the achievement of the sustainable development goals (SDGs), the exhibition will look to emphasize the actualization of the Parish Development Model (PDM).

It is also understood that during the expo, Makerere University Hospital and the Uganda Cancer Institute will offer free services on;

- Cancer screening

- Safe male circumcision

- COVID-19 vaccination

- HIV counseling and testing

- Checking for diabetes and blood pressure

- Eye, ear and dental care

- Hepatitis B vaccination.

The maiden National Appropriate Technologies Expo was held in November 2021.
