Police in Uganda's northern district of Adjumani have intensified efforts to trace a four-year-old girl who disappeared under unclear circumstances from the police barracks.

The child, identified as Michelle Kasikayire and a nursery pupil at Mummy’s Care Nursery and Primary School, vanished this week on Monday (March 16).

According to North West Nile regional police spokesperson Collins Asea, she had been left under the care of her grandmother, Sgt Lucy Angeyo at Adjumani Police Barracks.

But at around 4pm that day, the grandmother failed to locate the child within the barracks.

“A sniffer dog was deployed and tracked from the barracks to the child’s school and later to the town council offices, where a crowd had gathered,” said Asea.

Despite reviewing CCTV footage from the school and surrounding areas, investigators have not yet established the child’s whereabouts.

Police have since opened a case file (ADJ CRB No. 145/2026) and issued alerts through local media, urging the public to provide any information that could aid the search.
