A 65–year-old woman has been fined sh240,000 for reportedly stealing 28 pieces of pine wood from Koro P.7 School in Uganda's northern district of Omoro.
Evelyn Ayot, a resident of Lajwatek Cell in Laroo–Pece Division in neighbouring Gulu City, confessed to having taken the wood.
She said she wanted to use it to build her grass–thatched hut.
Ayot is a cook at Koro Secondary School in Omoro. Village chairman Charles Obor said the sexagenarian was arrested on Monday morning with the pieces of wood.
He said her children's pleas for mercy for their mother landed on deaf ears as the school management went ahead and fined her sh240,000 — to be paid within one week.
Obor said the pine wood was ferried back to the school.
