SC Villa captain Owori dies from injuries sustained in attack by thugs

Sports Club Villa (SC Villa) captain David Owori has died from injuries sustained in an attack by thugs on the night of August 4, 2026, near his home in Makindye division, Kampala district.
SC Villa, in a statement released by club spokesperson Asan Kasingye on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, announced his death, saying, “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the untimely passing of our captain, Owori, who had been receiving treatment at Case Clinic following an attack by suspected thugs. Our deepest condolences and prayers are with his family.”
In an earlier statement shared on Wednesday morning, Sports Club Villa president Ahmed Omar said, “SC Villa Football Club is deeply saddened to inform its supporters, the football community, and the general public that the club's captain Owori is suspected to have been attacked and assaulted by unknown individuals on Tuesday night.”
“Owori is currently hospitalised in critical condition and receiving urgent medical care. The club and his family are doing everything possible to ensure that he overcomes this incident,” Omar added.
The club said police authorities, “have been informed and investigations are underway. We ask everyone to keep Owori in their thoughts and prayers and to respect the privacy of his family during this difficult time.”

Crime statistics
While releasing the Uganda Police Force Annual Crime Report 2025 in April this year, Inspector General of Police Abas Byakagaba said a total of 196,405 cases were reported to police, compared to 218,715 in 2024, representing a 10.2% reduction.
Of the reported cases, 115,301 were submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, from which 79,291 were taken to court.
Out of the 32 policing regions in Uganda, KMP South registered the highest number of cases with 13,950, followed by Rwizi with 13,416, KMP North with 13,340, North Kyoga with 12,728 and KMP East with 10,388.
At district or divisional level, Wakiso Police Division registered the highest number of cases with 3,177, followed by Luweero Police Station with 3,123, Mukono Police Division with 2,880, Tororo Police Station with 2,831 and Ntungamo Police Station with 2,825.
